Symptoms of Structural Distress in Residential Construction

Three different engineering disciplines are required for construction of a residential development. A soils engineer is required to evaluate the soils condition, a grading/hydrology engineer is required to engineer the grading, utilities, and drainage systems, and a structural engineer is required to analyze and design the structural systems of the building. All three disciplines are civil engineers but each have a different focus and expertise. In this presentation, we will go through several examples of issues/red flags that relate to each of these three disciplines to demonstrate the difference between them and the expertise required for evaluation of each red flag. each red flag will be discussed in terms of significance and repair.
